I am interested in how we use clothes to express our identity and communicate with our surroundings, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously. We all relate to norms, different contexts and groups when we choose clothes. You can show who you are through the way you dress; you can blend in or stand out. High school can be seen as an important phase for the exploration of identity. Since students spend so much time in school, a large part of their identity development also takes place there. As a future art teacher, I have developed an interest in how the choice of clothing manifests this process.
In my degree project, I have examined how students, in their senior year at high school studying in an arts programme relate to clothes. Through interviews, I have tried to gain an insight into how these students think about the choice of clothes, style and what it means in the creation of their identity.
Jag har intresserat mig för hur vi människor använder kläder för att uttrycka vår identitet och kommunicera med vår omgivning, ibland medvetet och ibland omedvetet. Vi förhåller oss alla till normer, olika sammanhang och grupper när vi väljer kläder. Man kan genom klädval visa vem man är, smälta in eller sticka ut. Gymnasietiden kan man se är en viktig fas för utforskandet av identitet och eftersom elever tillbringar så mycket tid i skolan sker också en stor del av identitetsutvecklingen där. Som blivande bildlärare har det väckts ett intresse hos mig kring hur klädvalen manifesterar denna process.
I mitt examensarbete har jag undersökt hur elever i årskurs tre på gymnasiet som går bild-estetisk linje förhåller sig till kläder och har genom intervjuer försökt få en inblick i hur dessa elever tänker kring valet av kläder och stil samt vad det har för betydelse i deras identitetsskapande.
