Living in a time of human migration, the concept of personal identity has never been so critical as it is today. My migration story and the stories of people with similar experiences have inspired my degree project. It revolves around the feeling of belonging when moving from one place to another, adapting to the new environment (e.g. culture, language, etc.) and yet staying somewhere in between.
I want to capture the idea of places and identity transformation through materiality.
The tree is a very human-like, living material. I bend the wood and, while doing so, it follows my moves and adapts to changed conditions.The tension creates the shape, and the unfolded pieces become traces of my body’s movements.

I en tid med mänsklig migration har begreppet personlig identitet aldrig varit så kritiskt som det är idag. Min migrationshistoria och berättelser om människor med liknande erfarenheter har inspirerat mitt examensarbete. Det kretsar kring känslan av tillhörighet vid en flytt från en plats till en annan och anpassningen till den nya miljön (till exempel kultur, språk osv.) och ändå hamna någonstans mittemellan.
Jag vill fånga idén om platser och transformation av identitet genom materialitet.
Ett träd är ett väldigt människoliknande och levande material. Jag böjer träet och det följer mina rörelser och anpassar sig till de förändrade villkoren. Spänningen skapar formen och de utbredda delarna blir spår av min egen kropps rörelser.
Jag ser dessa skulpturer ur juvelerarens perspektiv; de performativa och interaktiva delarna inbjuder åskådaren till att delta.
