This year’s degree projects in Spatial Design mirror the complex world we live in right now. The projects revolve around the climate and urgent societal issues, and move between outside and inside, zooming in and out, and the students turn to target groups of different ages, both older and younger. Experiences are staged that raise thoughts about the sea and the forest and their meaning, which can create another understanding of the balance in our ecosystems. A rediscovery of our relationship to the landscape and our systems is made possible by travelling in a nomadic dwelling. A stool from the Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm is the point of departure, where the relation between race and the ideals of modernity and design are examined and made visible through props and the design of new artefacts.
Participants are involved in the actual design process in three projects: ideas that people with impaired vision cannot work with design and architecture are questioned, tents are built jointly where the role as interior architect is put to the test and the third project is about local construction and archaeological excavations in The Million Programme areas, where the soil carries memories of human and non-human activity, such as agriculture and contemporary building constructions. Health is in focus, about recovery from fatigue syndrome, and public meeting places are created and designed, both for children and older people, to counteract loneliness in society and to provide new places for play. Textile spaces and clay-based material investigations are explored, and the line that can be perceived as both a separating boundary and a connection in relation to the body and its movements.
The media and materials with which the students work are concrete materials, such as wood, concrete, textiles and clay, but also what cannot be touched, such as light and sound – as a whole, these projects work together based on critical approaches to comment on our time and create new visions of future spaces and artefacts.

Årets examensarbeten i rumslig gestaltning ger en spegling av den komplexa värld vi lever i just nu. Projekten kretsar kring klimat och angelägna samhällsfrågor och rör sig mellan ute och inne, zoomar in och ut och där studenterna vänder sig till målgrupper i olika åldrar, äldre och yngre. Upplevelser iscensätts som väcker tankar om havet och skogen och deras betydelse, som kan skapa en annan förståelse för balansen i våra ekosystem. Ett återupptäckande av vår relation till landskapet och våra system möjliggörs genom resande i ett nomadiskt boende. En stol från Etnografiska museet i Stockholm är utgångspunkten, där relationen mellan ras och ideal om modernitet och design undersöks och synliggörs genom rekvisita och formandet av nya artefakter.
Deltagare tas med i själva designprocessen i tre projekt: uppfattningar ifrågasätts om att synskadade inte kan arbeta med design och arkitektur, tält byggs tillsammans där rollen som inredningsarkitekt prövas, samt lokalt byggande och arkeologiska utgrävningar i miljonprogramsområden, där jorden bär på minnen om mänsklig och icke-mänsklig aktivitet, som jordbruk och samtida byggande. Hälsa står i fokus, som återhämtning vid utmattningssyndrom och hur publika mötesplatser skapas och formas, både för barn och äldre människor för att motverka ensamhet i samhället och ge nya platser för lek. Textila rum och lerbaserade materialundersökningar utforskas, liksom linjen som både kan uppfattas som en avskiljande gräns och en förbindelse i relation till kroppen och dess rörelser.
Media och material som studenterna arbetar med är konkreta material som trä, betong, textilier och lera, men även det som inte går att ta på, som ljus och ljud – i en helhet samverkar dessa projekt utifrån kritiska förhållningssätt för att kommentera vår samtid och skapa nya visioner om framtida rum och artefakter.
