In my degree project, I explore our culture’s creation of nature, folklore, magic and the forest in our modern society. I read and write, and at the same time I crochet sculptures. They grow large and are made of wool. A living material. Sculptures of forest spirits, of animals, of trees. More than just planted trees live in the forest, and through my art I want to explore contemporary and historical beliefs about the forest and its story. Modern sagas about how to save the forest and how we destroy it; the hierarchy between nature and human.
I process and discuss this through art in a portrait of nature and the meeting of culture as a depiction of forest in sculpture and text. My wish is to encourage a further look in between the trees. I use old craft techniques such as felting, weaving, embroidery, and bring them together in sculptures that are imaginative and contemporary. I work with art, inspired by crafts.
Jag arbetar med ett utforskande av kulturens skapande av naturen, folktro, om föreställningar om magi, om skogens plats i vårt moderna samhälle. Läser och skriver, samtidigt som jag virkar skulpturer. De växer sig stora, är gjorda av ull. Ett levande material. Skulpturer av skogsrå, av älgar, av skogen. Det finns mer än bara planterade träd i skogen och jag vill genom mitt konstnärsskap utforska nutida och historiska trosuppfattningar i sagan om den. Detta inkluderar moderna sagor om vem som kan rädda skogen och vad vi människor har för ställning till den.
Genom konsten utforskar jag en porträttering av naturen och kulturens möte som avbildning av skog i skulptur och i text. En uppmuntran till att titta in längre mellan träden. Jag använder gamla hantverkstekniker som tovning, vävning, broderi och sammanför dem i skulpturer som är föreställande och samtida. Jag jobbar med konst, inspirerad av hantverk.
