The book is not a neutral container for text and image. It is read primarily with our senses but also through a contextual understanding of the underpinning economic, aesthetic and intellectual considerations in the book production grid.
Through my master thesis project I set out to expand my vocabulary of the book by examining the communicative space embedded in the materiality of a book. The physical qualities offer a spatial and interactive vocabulary that influence narration, reading and design practices. The square has been used as a grid to examine how to navigate and negotiate with the standards of book production. The project has resulted in a series of investigations, among which one part is presented at the exhibition: Narrakub. The structural qualities of the Narrakub support a narration practice beyond single voices, fixed points-of views and linear time.
Boken är inte en neutral behållare för text och bild. Det fysiska objektet kommunicerar främst med våra sinnen men också genom en kontextuell förståelse av ekonomiska, estetiska och intellektuella överväganden inom bokproduktion.
Under mitt masterprojekt har jag undersökt den kommunikativa förmågan som finns i bokens materialitet. De fysiska egenskaperna erbjuder ett rumsligt och interaktivt vokabulär som påverkar hur vi skriver, läser och designar böcker. Kvadraten har använts för att undersöka hur bokproduktionens standarder kan navigeras inom och förhandlas med. Projektet har resulterat i en serie utforskningar och på utställningen presenteras en av dessa: Narrakub. De strukturella kvaliteterna hos Narrakub möjliggör narrativ med flera perspektiv, röster och ett icke-linjärt berättande.
