My practice takes place and unfolds at the knitting machine. I make knitted situations which can be read as poems or movement scores, or as small bodies in a dance. How does one capture a moment, a gesture, a connection in a material way? I must consider all of these bodies: the textiled body, the textile-body (body of the textile) and the body of the machine, all equally as complex, intricate and compelling in their own right.
I form intra:knit with Karen Modrei and our collaboration generates space for thinking, making and inter-acting. The subject and the object become entangled and we are looking at these bodies relating, making and moving together. Can we describe this in a non-material way? Without words or objects?
We join hands (and needles) with our machines to generate dialogues and create a space for dynamic interaction, tentative considerations and creative mysticism surrounding the complex nature of this craft.
Mitt arbete äger rum och utvecklas kring stickmaskinen. Jag gör stickade arbeten som kan läsa som dikter eller rörelser, eller som små kroppar i en dans. Hur fångar man ett ögonblick, en gest, en gemenskap på ett materiellt sätt? Jag måste överväga alla dessa kroppar: den textila kroppen (textilens kropp) och maskinens kropp, alla lika komplexa, invecklade och utmanande på sitt sätt.
Jag har tillsammans med Karen Modrei grundat intra:knit och vårt samarbete skapar en plats för tänkande, skapande och interaktion. Subjektet och objektet snärjer in sig i varandra och vi ser på dessa kroppar som relaterar till, skapar och rör sig tillsammans. Kan vi beskriva det på ett icke-materiellt sätt? Utan ord eller objekt?
Vi förenar våra händer (och stickor) med våra maskiner för att skapa dialoger och en plats för dynamisk interaktion, experimentella överväganden och kreativ mysticism som omger den komplexa karaktären hos detta hantverk.
