Structures and surfaces have always been my focal point in all kind of projects. My starting point is the creation of the details on the surface and I work my way through the piece using a practice-based method that takes me beyond my initial idea and leads me to creations of tactile structures I couldn’t have imagined beforehand.
It fascinates me to see how materials and techniques can be mixed, manipulated, joined and misapplied to create unexpected elements and to make it challenging for the viewer to understand how it is made or what it consists of, in order to awaken a curiosity in textiles.
Coming from the fashion field, I still hold on to the haute couture approach and work with time-consuming handwork but in the degree exhibition, I have chosen to materialise it through a spatial installation, letting carpet meet sculpture. I see my work as a giant swatch sample, a patchwork of inspiration or as an objectified research book, where parts of the piece can be selected as an individual artwork or as a starting point for a new project.
Mitt fokus, i alla typer av projekt, ligger i strukturen och ytan. Jag utgår från ytan på detaljnivå och bygger mig fram igenom verket med hjälp av en metod som är både intuitiv och som innebär mycket handarbete. Metoden tar mig förbi min utgångspunkt och leder mig vidare till taktila strukturer jag i förväg inte kunnat föreställa mig.
Jag tycker det är fascinerande att undersöka hur material och tekniker kan mixas, förvrängas, sättas ihop och användas på ett sätt de inte är menade för. På så sätt utvecklar jag oväntade element som gör att det inte är så lätt för betraktaren att förstå hur det är gjort eller vad det består av i hopp om att väcka en större nyfikenhet.
Med bakrund inom mode så håller jag kvar vid mitt tidskrävande haute couture-arbetssätt och har i den här utställningen valt att materialisera det genom en rumslig installation där matta möter skulptur. Jag anser att mitt arbete även kan ses som ett stort materialbibliotek, ett patchwork av inspiration eller som en materialiserad researchbok där delar av verket kan plockas isär och utgöra nya verk på egen hand eller bli utgångspunkten för ett nytt projekt.
