We – Hazel Mallon and Karen Modrei – are intra:knit. Our work takes in a holistic viewpoint on the craft of machine knitting; its inputs and outputs as well as the consideration of all involved bodies. We are questioning c ategories of subject-object as well as human-machine and suggesting possible alternative realities in which boundaries might blur away. Within the formats of installation and performance, we are inviting the audience to the table of discourse as part of a collective imaginative practice.
What does our skillset as crafters mean in times of digitalisation and the relocation of materials; loss of contact? Using the vehicle of language and analysing those dialogues that are ongoing in craft processes, I am assessing the intimate relationships between maker and their tools and machines, in order to discuss hierarchies and the purpose of crafting.
Vi – Hazel Mallon och Karen Modrei – är intra:knit. Vårt arbete använder sig av en helhetssyn på maskinstickning; dess inmatning och utmatning såväl som beaktandet av alla involverade kroppar. Vi ifrågasätter kategoriseringen subjekt-objekt såväl som människa-maskin och föreslår möjliga alternativa verkligheter där gränser kan suddas ut. Inom formaten för installation och framförande bjuder vi publiken till bords för ett samtal, som en del av vår kollektiva fantasifulla praxis.
Vad innebär vår kompetens som hantverkare i eran av digitalisering och omflyttning av material; förlust av kontakt? Med hjälp av språket och genom att analysera de dialoger som pågår i en hantverksprocess, bedömer jag den intima relationen mellan hantverkaren och dess verktyg och maskiner för att diskutera hierarkier och syftet med att skapa.
