On the outskirts of the city lies the suburb. It’s evergreen, full of tall hedges and gates which cast shadows on the empty streets located between the gardens.
There is something in the water. There is something below the ground. There is something in the window staring down at you.
In this project I have used the comic book format as a medium to explore the visual landscape of the suburbs, and their relationship to the horror genre. ‘Between the Squares’ is a comic book of fictional horror stories based on an idyllic and conservative suburb in northern Stockholm where I grew up.
I utkanten av stan ligger villaförorten. Det är evigt grönt, fullt av höga buskar och grindar som kastar skuggor mot de tomma gatorna mellan trädgårdarna.
Det är något i vattnet. Det är något under jorden. Det är något uppe i fönstret som stirrar på dig.
I det här projektet har jag använt serieformatet som ett medium för att utforska bilden av villaförorten, och dess koppling till skräckgenren. ’Mellan Rutorna’ är en serietidning med fiktiva skräckhistorier baserade på den idylliska och konservativa villaförorten i norra Stockholm, som jag har vuxit upp i.
