A common denominator for my projects is the ‘in between’. The in between genders, the in between social norms, the in between behaviours, the in between spaces we occupy. I view the ‘in between’ as a confirmation that the world is not as simple as a yes or no. The in between is like a glue that holds everything together, it occupies and gives content to what otherwise would have been merely a void between content. The in between is what gives the world its complexity, its beauty.
But too often the in between isn’t even acknowledged, too often the ‘yes or the no’ is all people think there is. I therefore feel it my duty as an interior architect and a human being to investigate and explore the in between to give it a voice, to prove that it’s there. Right in front of our eyes.
En gemensam nämnare för mina projekt är det som är “mellan”. Mellan könen, mellan sociala normer, mellan beteenden, mellan de rumsligheter vi använder. Jag ser “mellan” som en bekräftelse på att världen inte är så enkel som ett ja eller ett nej. Mellan är som ett lim som håller allting samman, som upptar och ger innehåll åt det som annars endast skulle ha varit ett tomrum mellan innehåll. Mellan är det som ger världen sin komplexitet, sin skönhet.
Men alldeles för ofta är det som är mellan inte ens tillkännagivet, alldeles för ofta är ett “ja eller ett nej” det enda som människor tror existerar. Därför känner jag att det är min plikt som inredningsarkitekt och som människa att utforska det som är mellan, och ge det en röst och bevisa att det finns där. Mitt framför våra ögon.
