Butterfly’s all like herbs like thyme and mint. Why not plant something that makes the city smell good?

In my degree project, I investigate how design can improve biodiversity in the city. My goal is to make the urban space inviting for more than just humans and I want to strengthen the ecosystem where butterflies play an important role, both as pollinators and as food for other species. I have chosen to help butterflies as their numbers have halved in recent years and are in great need of support. Using design as a tool, I will introduce the host plants upon which the butterflies’ survival depends. I investigate how one can connect green areas through the modification of existing elements in the urban landscape and strategic location.
Through my design, I want to help make the city greener and more vibrant. I love plants so for me it is important to introduce more of them to the city so that both people and animals can thrive in an urban environment. In this way, we contribute to a larger butterfly population and a sustainable society.
Jag undersöker hur man med hjälp av design kan förbättra den biologiska mångfalden i staden. Mitt mål är att göra stadsrummet inbjudande för fler än bara människor och jag vill stärka ekosystemet där fjärilar har en viktig roll, både som pollinerare och föda för andra arter. Jag har valt att hjälpa just fjärilar då deras antal under de senaste åren har halverats och är i starkt behov av stöttning. Med design som verktyg kommer jag att introducera de värdväxter som fjärilen är beroende av för att överleva. Jag undersöker hur man via modifiering av befintliga element i stadslandskapet och strategisk placeringen kan koppla ihop grönområdena.
Genom min design vill jag bidra till att göra staden mer grön och levande. Jag älskar växter så för mig är det viktigt att introducera fler till staden för att både människor och djur ska frodas i en urban miljö. På så sätt bidrar vi till ett större fjärilsbestånd och ett hållbart samhälle.
