The urban landscape that makes up the city consists of a complex composition. The city consists of what we see around us in the shape of buildings, squares, streets and parks, but attached to these spaces there are also countless memories, stories, emotions and ongoing lives. Exploring the relationship between space and human, and looking at what aspects are value-creating for spaces in the city, is the basis of my degree project.
Through my design proposal, I want to create a different type of seating for public spaces that focuses on topics such as place, memory, history and user. The seating will function as a kind of memory capsule, an archive in the public space that tells little stories about people’s lives and memories. The background for the project derives partly from my previous education in urban planning and my belief that colour, form and material in urban design affects our feelings, thoughts and relation to the space around us.
Det urbana landskapet som utgör staden består av en komplex sammansättning. Staden består av det vi ser omkring oss i form av byggnader, torg, gator och parker, men förankrat i dessa rum och platser finns även mängder av minnen, historier, känslor och pågående liv. Undersökande av samspelet mellan plats och människa, samt vilka aspekter som är värdeskapande för rum i staden utgör grunden för detta projekt.
Genom mitt designförslag vill jag skapa en annorlunda typ av sittplats för offentliga rum som tar fasta på ämnen som plats, minne, historia och användare. Sittplatsen ska fungera som en sorts minneskapsel, ett arkiv i det offentliga rummet som berättar historier om människors liv och minnen. Bakgrunden för projektet vilar dels i min tidigare utbildning inom samhällsplanering och dels i min övertygelse om att färg, form och material i den urbana utformningen påverkar våra känslor, tankar och relation till omgivningen.
