In a time of restriction when new experiences and happy memories have become difficult to create, there is a desire to seek new environments beyond the home but within the country. Many have now chosen to try life on the water and to try out the boat as a holiday home. Following the pandemic, boat sales in the country have increased and boats have become more difficult to obtain. At the same time, boats that are deemed unworthy are being scrapped.
As a designer, a topic close to my heart is how we can influence the lifespan of and take care of that what was once produced. Long-lasting products often have an overall low environmental impact and a positive impact on more than just the climate. Keeping an object past the threshold of when it feels dated preserves future classics and creates opportunities for more people with different backgrounds to use the same resource, as very few have the financial means for such large new purchases.
In my degree project, I work practically and digitally with this issue.
I en tid av restriktioner då upplevelser och glada minnen har blivit svåra att skapa finns viljan att söka sig till nya miljöer bortom hemmet men inom landet. Många har nu valt att prova livet på vattnet och båten som semesterboende. Till följd av pandemin ökade båtförsäljningen i landet och båtar blev svårare att få tag på. Samtidigt skrotas båtar som bedöms icke värda att ta hand om.
Ett ämne nära mig som designer är hur vi kan påverka livslängden hos och ta hand om det som en gång producerats. Långlivade produkter har ofta en sammantaget låg miljöpåverkan och en positiv inverkan på mer än bara klimatet. Att hålla kvar ett objekt förbi tröskeln då det känns daterat kurerar framtida klassiker och skapar möjligheter för fler med olika bakgrund att nyttja samma resurs då ekonomin för stora nyinköp är få förunnat.
I mitt examensarbete verkar jag praktiskt och digitalt i denna frågeställning.
